Ten years after the April 6, 2009 earthquake in Abruzzo, the exhibition L’Aquila. Art treasures from the 13th to the 16th century presents to the public a selection of 14 restored works including goldsmithing, terracotta, stone and wood sculptures, paintings on wood and canvas from churches in L’Aquila. From the Madonnas with Child by the Master of Sivignano and Matteo da Campli to the one known as Delle Grazie; from the great Crucifix of the Cathedral to the processional Cross by Giovanni di Bartolomeo Rosecci; from the elegant and light St. Michael the Archangel by Silvestro dell’Aquila to the splendid St. Sebastian by Saturnino Gatti; from Pompeo Cesura’s Saint Equizio to Mijtens’ large canvases, the exhibition is a story of survival, a tribute to the city of L’Aquila on the tenth anniversary of the earthquake and a testimony to the great richness of its art.
The project, conceived by Marco Zaccarelli, is promoted by the Forte di Bard Association under the patronage of the City of L’Aquila and the Region of Abruzzo, and involves the participation of the Ufficio Arte Sacra e Beni Ecclesiastici dell’Arcidiocesi Metropolitana dell’Aquila and of the Polo Museale dell’Abruzzo / MuNDA Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo – lending bodies for the works – and the Soprintendenza Archeologica, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la Città dell’Aquila e i Comuni del Cratere e del Segretariato Regionale dell’Abruzzo (Direzione Regionale per Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici dell’Abruzzo)
